Wagner Cup update

Preparations are at a fever pitch here at the TTC as we get ready to host the 2008 Wagner Cup, rounds 3 and 4 of the FIM Spea Trial World Championship.

We’ll have a new shop building ready for all the official functions and scoring.

The course is set, sections roughed out in my head and mostly cleared but a lot of work remains to get ready. 12 of the 15 sections will be very close by, with some spectacular new stuff near Bilbao falls. The Mother of All Hillclimbs will return, only this year it goes to the TOP! 3 of the sections will be for the hardy hikers, but well worth the visit to the top of the mountain at the 60ft high Lampkin falls; this is the most stunning and scenic spot on the property and not to be missed.

Our latest addition to the TTC fleet is a Suzuki Samurai, which can haul chainsaws, generator, hammer drill, and is used to traverse to almost anywhere; I think Charlie’s fingerprints are embedded into the dash from our last trip up to Lampkin falls with it.

We also have added some property composed of a nice grassy field adjacent to the spring, which will be excellent for camping. We still have some spots available for observers; a full weekend pass is provided to folks who can observe one day during the weekend or 10 passes for a club willing to host a section.

Mark your calendars and don’t miss the trials event of the year!

Thanksgiving Training Days and Women-Only Class – Fri/Sat, Nov. 23-24, 2007

The TTC is having a special trials training clinic during the Thanksgiving weekend for riders of all skill levels. There will be two separate days of training with professional riding coaches to help you improve your skills and have a great time doing it.

The format will follow a sort of mini training days setup and will include series of practice sections, each designed to test specific skills such as hills and camber, rock steps, rocky creek beds, etc. Each section will include lines for a variety of skill levels. An instructor will be posted at each section to demonstrate techniques, help riders pick lines, encourage and coach riders in the proper techniques, and identify problems and correct riding form. Riders will move as a group from section to section to practice a variety of skills and different terrain.

Women-Only Class: Womens national champ and World #9 Louise Forseley will conduct a special training class for women only, proceeds to help Louise with travel expenses to compete in Europe next year!

Louise will work with the women-only group for this two day period and demonstrate the skills and determination she has used to improve to the top woman rider in America.

See our PDF flyer for more, then contact us to reserve your spot and/or for camping or cabin reservations.

STRA 15th Annual Fall Trial, the 58k

Last weekend was perfect weather for the 15th Annual edition of the STRA 58k Trial at TTC. Cool and clear and dry, actually it has never been so dry here, and some of the hill sections got slippery from the dust! A great time was had by all, with around 70 riders each day.

Local Pro rider Will Ibsen had dominating wins both days in the champ class, riding his new GasGas in competition for the first time. National enduro champ Russell Bobbitt came out for a bit of work on his technical riding skills and competed in the expert class. Several novice-only sections were included so that newer riders weren’t subjected to some of the more difficult parts of the loop, thanks to James Thompson for helping out with scoring on those sections. We also had a fun time with the kids trial, with 5 separate sections for them. Grandson Joey showed great form on the little Xispa (I have to brag a little).

Thanks to Charlie & Alex for setting some fun sections, to Catherine for managing things as efficiently as ever, to Andrew for cleanup of the campground and old sections, to Ashley & Vaughn for the always wonderful burgers, and to all the STRA folks who helped observe. Look forward to the final STRA round in Gadsden on Nov. 10/11!

Trials des Nations Teams finish 6th

Congratulations to the U.S. Men’s and Women’s TDN teams, each of whom had an excellent result and finished 6th overall in the 2007 Trials des Nations held at the Isle of Man. Our men’s team has a very youthful look, with veteran Chris Florin (GasGas) leading three teenagers including Cody Webb (Sherco) and newcomers Pat Smage (Sherco) and Will Ibsen (Scorpa). The U.S. Women’s team was represented by Louise Forsley (Sherco) and Sara Duke (GasGas).

See the FIM reports on the Men’s results and Women’s results on Trials Central.
