I am saddened to inform the trials community of the passing of John McWilliams Sr.  John was an avid rider and major national trials events organizer in the 1980′s in KY.

I am saddened to inform the trials community of the passing of John McWilliams Sr.  John was an avid rider and major national trials events organizer in the 1980′s in KY.

John’s obituary reads in part:

John was a boy scout leader for several years. He had many passions, including music, animals, and motorcycles.

John spent time competing in motorcycle trials competition with his sons.

Visitation will be from 5:00- 9:00 p.m. on Monday, August 23, 2010 at Oldham, Powell, & Roberts Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, August 24, 2010.

See the NATC Results page for the scores of all the classes and the year-end results. With a 1st place finish on Saturday, Cody Webb (Gas Gas) secured his first-ever national title.

After finishing runner-up in the series standings for four straight years, Webb picked up his game in 2010, winning eight of the 10 rounds to easily capture the championship. At Donner, Webb handled the huge granite walls and drops with precision, topping three-time and defending Champ Patrick Smage by 26 points on Saturday and 38 on Sunday.

By taking first place both days in Colorado over the weekend, Cody Webb (GasGas) has all but clinched first place in the 2010 AMA/NATC National Championship Trials Series. With 6 wins (including one in Oklahoma, one in Rhode Island, and two in New York), Webb will likely have his first-ever National Championship next week in California, beating out four-time AMA/NATC National Trials Champion Pat Smage (Sherco).

Dan Williams wrote in the Trials Central forum: "I calculate Cody only needs a fifth place (16 points) finish either day in California to clinch."

Trials Central has a report up today announcing that Toni Bou has clinched the 2010 FIM Trial World Championship after today’s Italian Grand Prix.

In front of a huge Italian crowd Bou sealed his fourth successive outdoor title thanks to an almost perfect closing lap. Adam Raga – Gas Gas did his best to spoil Bou’s party with a good early showing, but in the end had to settle for second place as Toni turned up the heat. Bou has now won a total of eight FIM Trial World titles, four indoors and four outdoors, and all since signing for Montesa back in 2007.

I got the Aug, 2010 issue of Trials and Enduro News this week and it contains the Ryan Young tutorial series, Lesson 19, clearing gaps, on Page 34, with the drop-off turn coming next month.
